Police: Kids Try to Put of Flames After Ex-boyfriend Sets Young Mother on Fire

MORENO VALLEY (KTLA) -- A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and setting her body on fire in front of her children, has surrendered to authorities.

Tyrone Harts, 38, turned himself in to authorities in Los Angeles.

He was later transferred to the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Brandi Marie Morales, 39, was found dead in the early hours of Feb. 22 in her home on the 11800 block of Wild Flax Lane.

Police say her children said a masked man entered the home and shot Morales, before setting her body on fire on the stair case.

Four of her six children doused the flames before police arrived.

The children range from 6 to 15 years old, authorities said.

Harts is charged with murder and assault with a gun.
