Police: 14-year-old Long Beach Girl Fights Off "Smelly" Attacker

After the struggle, before the man fled the scene he exposed himself to the girl.

Police set up a command post directly after the incident.

LONG BEACH (KTLA) -- Long beach police are searching for a man after an attempted kidnapping at an intermediate school, Monday morning.

A 14-year-old girl fought off the man as she was walking to Butler Middle School in Long Beach, who she later described to authorities as having a "distinctly bad body odor".

At around 8 a.m., as the girl walked to school, the man grabbed her arm.

After the struggle, before the man fled the scene he exposed himself to the girl.

The teen described the suspect to authorities as an African American man between the ages of 25 and 30 about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with light brown or hazel eyes.

The suspect was on foot and wearing faded navy blue cargo pants and a brown, hooded sweatshirt with two yellow stripes down each sleeve.

he was last seen walking southbound on Lemon Avenue from 20th Street.

Commander Josef Levy with Long Beach police said "we utilized our automated license plate reader vehicles, to try to locate any vehicles that may be associated or related to this crime. We utilized bloodhounds to try and capture a scent from the suspect and a police helicopter."

Police set up a command post immediately following the incident and went door-to-door around the school in search of the suspect and witnesses with any other possible information
